Express VPN is seen as the premium vpn service. It prices are a little higher than others, but users highly rate this service. But, is this all due to how people rate it, or is it actually 1 of the best? Let’s find out in this Express VPN Review!
Express VPN Review
In this review we will be looking at a few of the most common questions asked by users when looking to purchase a vpn. In this Express VPN Review, we will be looking at the following:
Express VPN has 1 of the best reputations when it comes to vpn’s and is seen as the more premium service among others. Although, that being said, it’s easy to gain a reputation through advertising and this is the reason we will be doing our own honest review.
We have to bear in mind Express VPN has been around for quite some time now, and to have mostly positive feedback, is a good sign. Vpn’s are pretty much essential in China to access the web and Express VPN is 1 of the only services I found that worked over there. So you can imagine their customer base is huge!
Most vpn’s will say they have the best speeds and use this as the major selling point, But there’s no getting away from the fact a vpn ‘will’ slow down your internet speeds on whichever device you have it connected on. Each vpn will give you different results, I’m intrigued to see Express VPN speeds.
In this Express VPN Review I will test on both desktop/PC with a wired connection and a streaming device (Firestick) over WiFi showing comparisons between my normal speeds and vpn speeds. I will also be using Fast.com on all tests to give a true comparison.
Desktop with 'NO' VPN
Desktop with VPN
Firestick with 'NO' VPN
Firestick with VPN
The speed test as shown above were pretty impressive compared to many other services. The speeds on Desktop/PC were the highest we have seen so far, and the Firestick speeds were around what we expected.
Another thing to mention is how stable the speeds were. When testing it wasn’t dropping and rising back up. This is very good for streaming as it means you will have no dropouts and in most cases, less buffering issues.
NOTE: We connected to the best available server on both tests in this Express VPN Review, other servers will more than likely give different results.
Does Express VPN Work With Netflix, iPlayer ETC?
Popular streaming services such as Netflix, iPlayer, ITV HUB etc, tend to block vpn connections so you can’t access the app while connected. Users prefer to connect to USA Netflix as there is over 50% more content which isn’t available in such as the UK. Streamers wanting to access UK streaming services (iPlayer, ITV HUB) from outside the UK will also require a vpn to watch content on those apps.
We tested Express VPN with the following Streaming Services:
- Disney +
- Prime Video
- BBC iPlayer
- ITV HUB
We had no issues watching content on both Netflix & Prime video when connected to both UK & USA servers. Disney Plus worked, but only when connected to a UK server. But Disney Plus and Prime Video are 2 apps you wouldn’t use a vpn with.
We could also watch both BBC iPlayer & ITV HUB when connected to a UK server. So if you need a vpn for iPlayer or ITV HUB, this will work great for you.
I personally don’t use a vpn for these types of applications as they’re not needed, but maybe something to bear in mind if you are in a different country or you want to connect via a different region.
NOTE: This doesn’t apply to third party streaming apps, only Official Subscription Streaming Apps.

What Express VPN Collect
- To troubleshoot technical issues related to ExpressVPN apps
To provide technical support to customers, identify connection problems, and give country-specific advice on how to use our service
To enable ExpressVPN engineers to identify and fix network issues
ExpressVPN also collects anonymized analytics data such as speed test data, connection failures, and crash reports. These diagnostic reports do NOT tie back to individual users because we’ve engineered our apps to never know which user sends which data. You can specify in the settings menu of any ExpressVPN app whether you wish to send this data to us.
What Express VPN 'DON'T' Collect
ExpressVPN stores no activity logs and no connection logs from our users. Here’s what that means:
No activity logs. ExpressVPN does not see or record which websites you visit. We never log the destination or contents of your traffic, and we run our own private, zero-knowledge DNS on every VPN server for added privacy and anonymity.
No connection logs. ExpressVPN never logs connection timestamps, session duration, your source IP address, or the ExpressVPN IP address that your computer assumes when connected to the VPN.
